To succeed in effective and impactful stakeholder engagement as a technical communicator, you need to refine your emotional and social intelligence. Emotional intelligence refers to knowing and understanding your own emotions and being able to manage them effectively when engaging with others. Social intelligence is the strategic capacity to evaluate and influence other people's emotions and relationships. Emotional and social intelligence include critical skills such as cultivating valuable relationships, empathetic listening, curious questioning, improving teamwork, mediating and resolving conflicts, reframing, exhibiting leadership presence, storytelling, and ethical persuasion.
