All STC memberships are individual. Select your category from the list below to begin your membership activation process.

If you are an STC member whose membership has lapsed for more than one year, please log to your account above and proceed through this Join Now membership process to re-activate your account correctly in our system. 

If you have an account with STC and have difficulties logging in, please contact STC membership before creating a duplicate record. Duplicate records can cause issues with your current account and access to benefits, and maintaining your STC history. If you do not have an account with STC, when you select the membership category below, you will be first prompted to create an account.

STC is a U.S. based company and all rates and fees listed are in U.S. dollars (USD)

Because the full range of STC products and services is available online to members immediately upon activationSTC dues are nonrefundable and nontransferable.

New membership category! Become a Sustaining Member of STC! Sustaining Membership  is a long-term membership choice for those who wish to pledge their support to the Society for Technical Communication by making a 15-year membership commitment. Click here for details.

Retired membership
 renewals can be completed online, by paper form
, or by contacting STC membership. To qualify for retired membership, you must be 65 years of age or older, working 20 hours or less in the field, and be a consecutive member of STC for 10 years or more.

Professional and Academic Member

STC's Professional & Academic membership category is for the more seasoned professional with four or more years of experience. Those who choose Professional & Academic membership have access to the online versions of Intercom, Technical Communication, STC's Salary Survey, and other ePublications. They can also take advantage of member-only discounts on all STC educational webinars, online courses, Roundtable, STC's certification exam, annual conference registration, and corporate partner products and services. Professional & Academic membership also includes a personalized Education Report Card, and Job Bank and Mentor Board access. Networking communities can be added for a fee.

New Professional Member


New Professional
members receive all Professional & Academic benefits at a discounted rate. To qualify for the New Professional Member rate, individuals must have graduated from a college/university within the past three years and/or are new to the tech comm field. 
Dues - $195.00 USD


Student Member

Student members
receive all Professional & Academic member benefits, plus one professional chapter, one student chapter, one Academic and one additional Special Interest Group (SIG) membership for free. To be eligible for student membership, an applicant must be enrolled in an accredited university, college, community college, or technical school; taking at least two courses or the equivalent each term; and preparing for a career in technical communication. Additional communities can be added for a fee.

Gold membership
